Position Summary

The New Goods & Merchandising Manager is responsible for managing inventory, analyzing sales data, developing product strategies, creating promotional plans, and conducting market research. The incumbent will prepare and execute seasonal and annual merchandise buying plans, collaborate with vendors, manufacturers, and distributors to ensure timely delivery of merchandise and analyze market trends to identify new opportunities for increasing sales. In conjunction with the Vice President of Operations, they will develop pricing strategies that drive profitability and meet customer demand utilizing promotional plans to increase traffic and revenue.

Working with store operations and store staff, they will ensure products are displayed and priced correctly to best support the mission of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi (GIMS).

Primary Duties
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of merchandising strategies.
  • Create eye-catching store layouts that showcase the brand and aesthetic of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi.
  • Negotiate with vendors to achieve the lowest costs for quality new goods inventory.
  • Assist in preparation of annual and quarterly budgets, collecting, and presenting data to relevant stakeholders.
  • Track inventory movement turns and strategically introduce promotions, sales, price changes, etc., to maximize turns.
  • Analyze trends and monitor supply and demand to establish appropriate min/max reorder points.
  • Responsible for performing physical inventory of new goods and analysis of results, using root cause analysis exercises with store managers to lower shrinkage.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department to brainstorm new projects, campaigns, and business ideas that increase new goods turns and revenue.
  • Interpret sales reports and provide guidance on methods to improve new goods sales and customer engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirement(s)

High School Diploma, Equivalency, or Technical Program Certificate required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Five to seven years retail, merchandising, sales, display, and customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirement.

Certification(s)

Possess and maintain a valid Mississippi Driver License.

  • Working knowledge of computers, POS, including a strong working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams in Microsoft Office.

  • Designs and maintains safe working and shopping environments.
  • Ability to pass alcohol/drug screenings, criminal background check.
  • Motor Vehicle Report acceptable to commercial insurer.
Physical Requirements
  • Works in an environment with occasional high stress, and potentially short deadlines.
  • Stands and walks for most of the workday, occasionally sits.
  • Routinely bends, stoops, pulls, pushes, reaches, kneels, twists, turns throughout the day.
  • Able to lift up-to 25 pounds in retail environment; 50 pounds in Donations/ADC/ Aftermarket environment, and the ability to do so safely.
Travel

Substantial travel within GIMS territory required and some external travel for meetings, conferences, etc. will be necessary.
