Position Summary

As a Mechanical or Chemical Engineer intern, you will participate and assist in one or more of the following: design process, review, fabrication, assembly, mechanical design, boiler steam operations, pumps and pump systems, CMMS, HVAC, cavity models, and project management. This position pays $22.00/hour.

Responsibilities
  • Cooperates with the EHS&S Manager to adhere to all regulatory requirements for plant operation while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Understands Lock/Out, Tag/Out, and Try/Out procedures.
  • Performs work under the supervision of senior engineers and/or managers.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Understands AutoCAD.
  • Participates in process validation activities. Understands process flow.
  • Participates in environmental and reliability testing.
  • Provides process engineering assistance to troubleshoot operational problems, minimize unit interruptions, and maximize asset utilization.
  • Understands cavity prediction models (monitor and predict existing cavities, use to plan well reversal/new well drilling/pullbacks).
  • Works closely with Operations to understand the production and process.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with plant employees.
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • Prepare and formally present project work to the Plant Management at the end of the internship.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Using a PC with high-level proficiency in document/file management, word processing, database management, email usage, and Internet browsers.
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Communicating clearly and effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Software: MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Internet Explorer, Adobe, and maintenance management system.
  • Ability to speak effectively before public groups and operate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The work is performed in both outdoor and indoor environments; outdoor environments may include summer temperatures.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, as well as exposure to high places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
  • The incumbent’s working conditions are typically moderately loud and occasionally very loud.
  • Hearing protection is available and required.

  • Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

  • In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
