Position: CDOC Laundry Supervisor Trainee/Correctional Officer I - Rifle

Laundry Supervisor Trainee

The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) has developed the Laundry Supervisor Trainee Program, in order to train interested and qualified individuals in correctional facility laundry operations. This position is classified as a Correctional Officer I. This trainee position will receive on-the-job training (OJT) in correctional facility laundry operations, while maintaining the safety and security of the assigned correctional facility. This trainee program provides the opportunity to gain relevant work experience toward promotion to a Correctional Support Trades Supervisor (CSTS I) in the Facilities Laundry Operations.

Upon successful completion of this trainee program, the selected candidate may have the opportunity to advance to a CSTS I position within CDOC, which requires 4 years of laundry employment experience operating commercial grade washers and dryers or a combination of 2 years of laundry experience and 2 years of correctional experience.

Under the supervision of the Facilities Laundry Operations staff, this position performs 'hands on' work alongside inmates and is trained in the following areas:
Ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; training and overseeing inmate work crew in laundry operations and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of assigned tasks. This position promotes the CDOC Mission and Vision with integrity and commitment. Safety and Security - position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals;

enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques; monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas;

position performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to policy and writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment. Operations
- Position maintains safe, secure and compliant laundry operations and equipment maintenance; prepares daily weight records, calculates daily consumption of supplies, maintains all laundry product inventory; maintains clothing movement records and documents all issues, losses, and exchanges to provide accountability for all clothing & linen. Follows guidelines for the identification, accountability, laundering & wearing of authorized state-issued clothing in compliance with policy and regulations.

Tasks include, but are not limited to: providing properly-fitted & properly-tagged set of state-issued inmate clothing & laundry bag to all inmates undergoing initial admission process; maintains record of clothing issued, repairs damaged clothing & determines the serviceability of clothing & the necessity for exchange. Position oversees and schedules regular housekeeping assignments for the work unit and monitors the safe use and storage of cleaning supplies, chemicals and tools.

Supervision
- Position maintains safety and security by providing supervisory duties for assigned inmate crew; promotes a high level of performance and security by setting the work standard according to agency mission, vision and values. Trains and instructs inmates in laundry operations in compliance with agency policy and regulation to include the proper use of all laundry equipment, sanitation standards and cleaning supplies;

ensures adherence to established housekeeping and sanitation procedures in order to prevent injury and infection and stresses proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Tracks and calculates inmate hours and pay, creates schedule, assigns tasks and inspects work; performs inmate evaluations and reduces inmate idleness, creating real life work opportunities to prepare inmates for community reentry.
