Criminal Justice Services Officer I

Responsibilities
  • Conduct case management activities for assigned clients, including orientation, classification assessment, supervision plan development, and monthly budget review.
  • Provide counseling sessions, crisis intervention, and motivational interviewing, and initiate and follow up treatment referrals.
  • Maintain detailed case documentation such as arrival/termination reports, progress reports, incident reports, affidavits, and court reports.
  • Perform safety and security duties: random searches, vehicle searches, urine specimen collection, verification of client activities, resident counts, and emergency drills.
  • Observe and supervise residents, assess behavior, compliance, and guest visits; ensure rule compliance.
  • Represent Garfield County in probation, parole board hearings, and court proceedings; interact professionally with the public sector.
  • Attend departmental meetings, provide coverage for Work-Ender and Useful Public Services programs, and drive County vehicles as needed.
  • Adhere to safety precautions and handle County equipment responsibly.
  • Serve as a Disaster Service Worker during local emergencies.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • Experience:

    Three years in corrections, criminal justice, or related setting.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Valid driver’s license; CPR certification. Additional crisis intervention and motivational interviewing certifications required by the State of Colorado.
  • Additional:
    Minimum age 21; no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history in the past 7 years; no hidden driver’s license suspensions or revocations.
Physical Activities and Work Environment
  • Lifting & carrying objects over 50 pounds.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling during inspections.
  • Typing and operating office equipment.
  • Physical contact for searches and client interactions.
  • Visual acuity for monitoring behavior and reading documents.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Reaching and manipulating objects in confined spaces.
  • Hearing for radio and alarm alerts.
  • Sitting during breaks and report writing.
  • Physical stamina for demanding tasks and long shifts.

Work environment may involve hazardous situations, exposure to violence, mental/emotional disturbances, bodily injury, blood-borne pathogens, and moderate to loud noise. Frequent interruptions and demands occur.

Work Hours
  • Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
  • Typical schedule:

    10:00 am to 8:00 pm; may work four 10‑hour shifts.
  • Occasional after‑hours or weekend work may be required.
Required Travel

Regular travel within Garfield County; essential driver responsibilities.

Technology and Equipment

Use of computer, spreadsheets, calendars, word processing, calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones.

Background Check
