The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring an Engineering Geologist Assistant to join our team located in Rigby, .
This position performs and assists in coordinating geological engineering investigations and technical field studies in support of transportation projects. Responsibilities include evaluating surface and subsurface geologic conditions, collecting and analyzing soil, aggregate, and rock samples, preparing and reviewing technical reports, and providing geological expertise to support planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities. The incumbent also assists with the evaluation and management of aggregate material sources and collaborates with engineers, geologists, and other technical staff to ensure projects are completed safely and effectively.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Review cartographic maps, aerial photography, remote imagery, and technical literature to evaluate surface and subsurface geologic conditions and geologic structures
- Conduct field investigations and collect soil, aggregate, and rock samples for testing and analysis
- Perform geotechnical and geological testing to support transportation projects and engineering studies
- Draft, review, and assist in the preparation of technical reports, findings, and recommendations
- Assist with the identification, evaluation, development, and management of aggregate material sources within the district
- Maintain accurate field notes, testing records, and project documentation
- Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and other technical staff to support project planning and delivery
- Follow established safety procedures while working in field and office environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Good Knowledge of:
Principles of engineering geology including each of the following: visual soil and rock description and classification; rock structure and configuration; geomorphology; and subsurface site investigation. - Performing testing procedures such as seismic, soil mechanics, seepage, resistivity
- Some positions may require that incumbents have a bachelor’s degree in geology or hold Geologist-in-Training status at time of hire
