As a traveling QA/QC Inspector, the role involves inspecting welding and welder certifications, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and boilers, piping, mechanical equipment, painting and coatings, structural steel, and fabricated materials.
Essential Duties- Experience or working knowledge of codes such as ASME B&PV, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, NBIC, API, AWS, ACI, AISC, RCSC and others as required; ability to read and interpret various codes, standards, and specifications.
- Familiarity, experience, or prior training and certification in liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing, and radiography. Responsible for performance and scheduling of all inspection and testing activities per contract.
- Assess subcontractors’ capabilities to meet project quality requirements.
- Ensure contract obligations for testing and record‑keeping are adhered to.
- Control calibrated measuring and test equipment used on the project and maintain current calibration records.
- Ensure proper turnover of complete quality control packages; responsible for documentation organization, timely turnover, and database scanning.
- Maintain project quality records for the construction phase and quality audit plans, performance, and management.
- Evaluate subcontractors’ facilities to determine their capabilities in meeting quality requirements.
- Conduct periodic quality program training and coaching for site supervisory personnel.
- Perform all other duties required by the QA/QC department and day‑to‑day business.
- Four (4) years of formal training and experience in heavy industrial projects such as refineries, petro‑chemical complexes, power plants, etc. Pulp and paper preferred.
- Current CWI certification required.
- Experience with WPSs, PQRs, and WPQs.
- Ability to interact effectively with project team members, clients, subcontractors, and craft employees.
- Must possess or be able to obtain inspection licenses and/or certifications as required.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English sufficient for job functions as required by client and facility policy.
- Must be able to communicate and document via company web mail programs.
- Must successfully complete all required pre‑hire requirements.
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Move in and around confined and cluttered spaces and uneven areas, with full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
- Work up to a 12‑hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
