Job Title: Educational Assistant/Substitute
Requirements: RRPS requires all Educational Assistants to hold a Level 3 K‑12 Educational Assistant License issued by the New Mexico Public Education Department. To qualify for a Level 3 License, applicants must show transcripts from a credentialing college or university or pass a paraprofessional exam administered by RRPS.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Level 3 K‑12 Educational Assistant License.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Substitute License.
- Tier 1: All GE and Kindergarten Educational Assistants (e.g., Library, Ed Tech, Workroom).
- Tier 2: Assistants working in a Special Education setting with Special Education students. Duties include caring for student needs such as feeding, cleaning, diapering, catheter care, toileting, feminine hygiene, clothing changes, transporting in wheelchairs, transferring, and other daily living activities.
- Tier 3: Assistants working in a social communications classroom, a district‑approved behavioral program, a cross‑categorical program, or a district‑approved CBI program. May include the same caring tasks as Tier 2, and may work with students during lunch period. Identified by the Executive Director of Special Services.
- Assistants may also be assigned to regular education, special education classrooms, librarians, school nurse, other professionals, or to monitor and manage the school workroom.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist teachers and professionals with preparation and/or delivery of instructional material.
- Assist in one‑on‑one and small group activities.
- Assist in transferring students.
- Assist in caring for student needs (feeding, cleaning, diapering, catheter care, toileting, feminine hygiene, clothing changes, transporting in wheelchairs, transferring, and other daily living activities).
- Assist teacher and ancillary staff in implementing goals and objectives for each student.
- Assist in management/redirection of disruptive or combative students.
- Supervise students on the playground, cafeteria, restrooms, and hallways.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑service training, and other school activities.
- Comply with state‑approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession, RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct, and all rules, directives, regulations, school board policies, and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform clerical duties for teachers.
- Perform substitute duties as assigned.
- May be assigned other duties based on district needs during the term of employment.
Work hours will be in accordance with hours determined by the school district and the individual schools within parameters of the current collective bargaining agreement.
