Educational Assistant – Special Education

Job DescriptionThis posting is for the school year at Lincoln Middle School (190‑day contract). The position is Educational Assistant/Substitute in Rio Rancho Public Schools.
Requirement:
Hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Level 3 K‑12 Educational Assistant License and a Substitute License. Applicants must provide transcripts from a credentialing college/university or pass the paraprofessional exam administered by RRPS.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Level 3 K‑12 Educational Assistant License or ability to obtain it
- Substitute License or ability to obtain it
- Tier 1:
General and Kindergarten assistants (e.g., Library, Ed Tech, Workroom). - Tier 2:
Assistants in Special Education settings, tasks may include feeding, cleaning, diapering, caring for catheter equipment, toileting, feminine hygiene, clothing changes, transportation in wheelchairs, and other daily living activities. - Tier 3:
Assistants in social communications, behavioral, cross‑categorical, or CBI programs; similar duties as Tier 2 and may work through lunch. Identified by Executive Director of Special Services. - Assignments may include regular education, special education, librarian, nurse, or workroom duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist teachers and professionals with preparation and delivery of instructional material.
- Conduct one‑on‑one and small group activities.
- Assist with student transfers and care tasks (food, hygiene, clothing, transportation).
- Support implementation of student goals and objectives.
- Manage and re‑direct disruptive or combative behavior.
- Supervise students in playground, cafeteria, restrooms, and hallways.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑service training, and other school activities.
- Comply with New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility, RRPS Employee Standards, and all applicable regulations.
- Perform clerical duties and substitute responsibilities as assigned.
- Take on additional duties as needed during employment term.
Hours will align with district and school parameters under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
