Job Title:
Educational Assistant/Substitute

RRPS obliges all Educational Assistants to hold a Level 3 K-12 Educational Assistant License issued by the New Mexico Public Education Department. Applicants must supply transcripts from an accredited college or university or achieve the license through the RRPS-administered paraprofessional exam.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must hold or be able to obtain a Level 3 K-12 Educational Assistant License.
• Must hold or be able to obtain a Substitute License.

• Tier 1 – General education and kindergarten assistants, including library, technology, and workroom support.
• Tier 2 – Assistants in Special Education settings caring for students; duties may include feeding, cleaning, diapering, catheter care, toileting, feminine hygiene, clothing changes, wheel‑chair transport, and other daily living activities.
• Tier 3 – Assistants in social‑communications, behavioral, cross‑categorical, or CBI programs. Mandated duties may include lunch‑period support and mandatory self‑care assistance.

• Assigned to regular or special education classrooms, librarians, school nurses, other specialists, or workroom monitoring.
• Assist teachers and professionals with instructional preparation and delivery.
• Support one‑on‑one and small‑group activities.
• Facilitate student transfer and mobility tasks.
• Provide mandatory student‑care duties such as feeding, cleaning, diapering, catheter work, toileting, hygiene, clothing changes, wheelchair transport, and daily living activities.
• Implement student goals and mandates.
• Manage or redirect students who may be disruptive or combative.
• Supervise students in playground, cafeteria, restrooms, and hallways.
• Participate in mandatory staff meetings, mandatory in‑service training, and compulsory school activities.
