What Your Job Will Be Like
We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to assist in a wide variety of duties associated with systems engineering, mechanical component testing, and mechanical design including mechanical development for rapid prototyping.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- End-to-end high-consequence process/capability research and development using robotics, programmable logic controllers, and digital twins
- Design mechanical components
- Test and evaluate against design requirements
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range$117,500 - $235,700
Qualifications We Require- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
- An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
- Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
- Experience in Robotics, and automation
- Solidworks modeling tools
- MATLAB or similar engineering-based simulation or programming tools
- Test planning, documentation, execution, data collection, and reporting
- Developing and delivering fieldable and/or flight-quality hardware
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and sometimes vague requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a successful and effective project leader
- Demonstrated commitment to developing yourself and your skills
The Analytical and Tritium Technologies Department is responsible for performing chemical and physical testing of materials and components for the Neutron Tube and Neutron Generator Production Programs within the Neutron Generator Production Center. The Department consists of laboratories specializing in defect/failure analysis, surface chemistry, radiochemistry, metallurgy and Ceramics, wet-chemistry and instrumental analysis, gas dynamics and mass spectrometry and particulate contamination control.
Our goal is to provide technical expertise, consultation and analysis capabilities required to support the Centers production mission.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
