Sound Operator
JOB SUMMARY:
The Camera Operator is responsible for capturing live game action, crowd reactions, promotions, player interactions, and other visual elements during New Mexico Goatheads home games and events. This position works closely with the Production Director and game presentation staff to provide high-quality camera feeds for the in-arena video board and other live production needs. The Camera Operator must be able to follow direction, anticipate action, and react quickly in a fast-paced live sports environment.
This role requires strong attention to detail and an understanding of basic live camera operation and composition.
- Operate an assigned camera during New Mexico Goatheads home games and select team events.
- Capture live hockey action, crowd reactions, player celebrations, benches, promotions, sponsorship elements, and other game presentation content.
- Follow camera assignments and live direction from the Production Director and control room.
- Maintain awareness of the game, production rundown, and upcoming game presentation elements.
- Frame and compose shots appropriately for use on the in-arena video board and live production.
- Communicate effectively with production staff through headset and intercom systems.
- Assist with camera setup, testing, troubleshooting, and breakdown as needed.
- Properly handle and maintain assigned production equipment.
- Attend required production meetings, rehearsals, and pregame checks.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Previous experience with camera operation, live production, sports broadcasting, videography, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working in live sports or entertainment environments is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of camera composition, focus, exposure, zoom, and movement.
- Ability to follow live direction and respond quickly to changing situations.
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a fast-paced production team.
- Strong communication skills and ability to receive and execute direction.
- Reliable and punctual with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on the New Mexico Goatheads home schedule.
- Knowledge and understanding of hockey preferred.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others; move about the facility; stand or remain in a stationary camera position for extended periods; operate professional camera and production equipment; and use computers and communications equipment.
- Must be able to transport, position, or move production equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work in elevated, fixed, or designated camera positions as assigned.
- This position requires work in a loud, fast-paced arena environment and may involve exposure to varying temperatures and event conditions.
- Must be able to work extended and non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
