Play-by-Play Broadcaster
The Play-by-Play Broadcaster serves as the primary voice of New Mexico Goatheads game broadcasts and is responsible for delivering accurate, engaging, and professional live commentary throughout the season. This position will provide play-by-play coverage of game action while incorporating statistics, storylines, partner elements, and relevant team information into each broadcast. The broadcaster will work closely with the Color Broadcaster, Broadcast Coordinator, and production staff to deliver a consistent and professional presentation for home and away games.
The ideal candidate possesses strong hockey knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to accurately describe fast-paced live action.
- Provide live play-by-play commentary for assigned New Mexico Goatheads home and away game broadcasts.
- Accurately describe game action, scoring plays, penalties, line combinations, statistics, and other relevant information.
- Prepare for broadcasts through research of players, teams, statistics, storylines, and league information.
- Deliver required sponsorship reads, promotional elements, and broadcast features accurately and professionally.
- Work collaboratively with the Color Broadcaster and Broadcast Coordinator throughout each broadcast.
- Participate in pregame, intermission, and postgame broadcast segments as assigned.
- Conduct player, coach, or guest interviews as needed.
- Maintain accurate awareness of game events, statistics, and developing storylines.
- Participate in broadcast rehearsals, production meetings, and pregame preparation.
- Represent the New Mexico Goatheads and REV Entertainment professionally during broadcasts and public appearances.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Previous play-by-play broadcasting experience at the professional, collegiate, junior, or high-level amateur sports level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hockey rules, terminology, strategy, and statistics.
- Excellent verbal communication, storytelling, and pronunciation skills.
- Ability to accurately describe fast-paced action in real time.
- Strong research and preparation skills.
- Ability to remain composed and professional during live broadcasts.
- Experience conducting interviews and hosting broadcast segments preferred.
- Familiarity with broadcast equipment and remote broadcast workflows preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with a broadcast partner and production staff.
- Reliable and punctual with the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by the New Mexico Goatheads schedule.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate continuously; remain seated or in a stationary broadcast position for extended periods; operate computers, broadcast equipment, headsets, and communications systems; and move throughout broadcast and arena work areas as needed.
- Position may require transporting or positioning broadcast equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Must be comfortable working in loud, fast-paced arena and broadcast environments.
- Position may require travel and extended workdays based on the game schedule.
- Must be able to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
