Overview
Personal Financial Counselor
, Rio Rancho, NM – Grade 24
The role provides comprehensive personal financial services to military service members and their families at designated military installations. This includes one‑on‑one counseling, group briefings, educational workshops, and referral services. The counselor will collaborate closely with installation leadership and the Department of Defense to ensure program effectiveness and compliance.
Responsibilities- Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and families.
- Assist in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
- Develop and distribute informational financial materials.
- Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle, including pre‑ and post‑deployment topics.
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling and other electronic communication tools (e.g., secure chat, video conferencing) when authorized.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issue information.
- Participate in in‑services, training, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; associate degree plus 4 years of experience or high school diploma plus 6 years of experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of financial counseling experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English. Bilingual English‑Spanish may be required by contract.
- Must obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500 per year. The position may also be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and voluntary benefits.
