Position type:
Part-Time, 0.50 FTE, Shift: Days.

Receive 17% weekday nights, 26% weekend nights, and 15% weekend day shift differentials.

Offer:

$40.04/hr maximum

Offer:

$50.55/hr.

Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations.

Position Summary

Provide quality diagnostic and therapeutic care to individuals who have or are suspected of having communication, swallowing, feeding or cognitive disorders. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, evaluate, educate and provide treatment to individuals who have or are suspected of having dysphagia.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with cognitive-communicative disorders resulting from traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with speech and language disorders.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with tracheostomy tubes and augmentation communication devices.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders.
  • Evaluate and treat ENT patients.
  • Supervise graduate students, clinical fellows, and/or paraprofessionals as delegated.
  • Provide education and training to hospital personnel as well as outside and rural communities as requested.
  • Consult with medical staff on patient care.
  • Document all patient care activities; maintain all appropriate records.
  • Cooperate with data collection efforts related to the monitoring of quality records.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and hospital employees.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols (Patient Safety
    1).
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes (Patient Safety
    2).
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk (Patient Safety
    3).
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner (Patient Safety
    4).
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" (Patient Safety
    5).
  • Administer medication for endoscopic procedures, including lidocaine and oxymetazoline using a nasal atomizer via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings in the EMR.
Qualifications

Education
:
Master’s Degree.

Education specialization
:
Related Discipline.

Experience (essential): 1 year directly related experience, 1 year rehabilitation interdisciplinary team experience, 1 year experience with brain injury patients.

Essential credentials
:

  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider within 30 days.
  • Speech Language Pathologist License in New Mexico within 30 days.
  • Certified Clinical Competence ASHA or Clinical Fellowship.
Physical Conditions

Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Working Conditions
  • Moderate exposure to chemicals/dangerous equipment/materials.
  • May be credentialed by UNMH Credentialing Committee.
  • Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required.
