Electronics Technician (IPC Certified)
This role focuses on the assembly, troubleshooting, modification, and repair of printed circuit boards (PCBs), harnesses, and mechanical assemblies in a small, collaborative team environment. The technician applies IPC standards, precision soldering techniques, and detailed documentation practices to ensure high-quality electronic products that meet stringent industry requirements, particularly for aviation-related projects.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, modify, and repair PCBs, wiring harnesses, and mechanical assemblies in accordance with IPC standards and internal procedures.
- Perform point-to-point wiring and complete both surface mount and through-hole soldering of PCBs using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Test completed assemblies to verify proper operation, using instruments such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, continuity testers, and other electronic test equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic assemblies by interpreting schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials to identify and resolve faults.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions based on test results, failures, and recurring issues, and assist in tracking the implementation of these actions.
- Follow and maintain company documentation standards and procedures, including updating and redlining bills of materials, drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams as needed.
- Follow, maintain, and help improve company quality processes, ensuring all work meets established quality and reliability standards.
- Adhere to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) procedures at all times and maintain ESD equipment in proper working condition.
- Maintain calibration of tools and test equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance with quality requirements.
- Use crimping tools, soldering irons, cutters, strippers, mechanical tools, label makers, and related equipment safely and effectively.
- Work closely with a small team to coordinate tasks, share information, and support multiple responsibilities within the group.
- Perform work that may require sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting objects from the floor to heights up to 48 inches, as well as lifting and moving up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Use binocular microscopes and other magnification systems to view color codes and small components, and accurately place components on boards.
- Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, and perform basic math required for measurements, documentation, and testing.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of electronics technician experience required; 10 years of experience preferred.
- Current or prior IPC certifications in both J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610.
- Proficiency in electronic troubleshooting and repair, with aerospace experience considered a plus.
- Ability to read, interpret, and redline bills of materials, drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Demonstrated ability to perform point-to-point wiring, surface mount soldering, and through-hole soldering of PCBs.
- Hands-on experience using crimping tools, soldering irons, cutters, strippers, mechanical tools, voltmeters, continuity testers, label makers, and similar equipment.
- Ability to use oscilloscopes and other electronic test instruments for electronics testing and diagnostics.
- Capability to view color codes on components and accurately place components on boards using systems such as a binocular microscope.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, lift objects from the floor to 48 inches, and lift and move up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and to perform basic math skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team environment.
