Role OverviewWe are seeking a Facilitator to help support and hold space for Talking Circles for veterans in the New York area. The facilitator will help create a safe, respectful environment where veterans can share experiences, build connection, and support one another. This role requires cultural awareness, cultural humility, and a willingness to listen and learn from the communities we serve.
This role helps support spaces where veterans can connect, be heard, and support one another. The work is grounded in respect for community knowledge, cultural practices, and the strength of peer connection.
This position will involve working alongside and in support of AIANV communities. We are looking for someone who approaches this work with respect, openness, and a community-first mindset.
Location RequirementCandidates must be able to reliably travel to one or both of the following locations:
- Teionkwarihwaienawà:kon Community Services Building
- Support and facilitate veteran Talking Circles in a respectful, culturally aware way
- Help create safe, confidential, and welcoming spaces for veterans
- Build trust and relationships within the veteran and local community
- Follow community guidance, cultural protocols, and partner leadership
- Listen to community needs and share feedback to help strengthen programming
- Veteran lived experience or strong experience working alongside veteran communities
- Experience supporting or facilitating groups, peer spaces, or community gatherings
- Cultural awareness and respect when working with Native American / Indigenous communities
- Willingness to learn from community leaders and cultural guidance
- Ability to travel to community locations in the New York area
- Strong listening skills and ability to hold space for emotional or sensitive conversations
- Helpful but Not Required
- Peer Support Specialist certification (or interest in obtaining)
- Experience working with Tribal or Indigenous communities
- Background in peer support, community health, behavioral health, or social services
- Familiarity with Talking Circle or similar community-based group models
Facilitation and travel are compensated at $100 total per facilitation, does not include pay for travel (travel compensated up to 200 miles).
