Substitute teachers will be considered for work at any school in the district. Your preferences for location and grade level will be taken into consideration.

Substitute teachers are essential to the district's success and must possess a minimum high school diploma, successfully pass a TBI/FBI fingerprint background check, pass a CPS background check, complete an initial physical examination, and be available to work on short notice if needed.

• Review and implement lesson plans.
• Mentor and engage students.
• Give clear instructions and help students understand lessons.
• Maintain discipline and classroom control.
• Foster a safe learning atmosphere.
• Record and grade quizzes, homework, projects, and exams.
• Observe and follow all school policies.

• Submit application online (paper applications not accepted).
• Schedule TBI fingerprinting appointment.
• Complete TBI fingerprinting.
• Await contact from HR.
• HR will send onboarding link.
• In‑person appointment to complete hiring scheduled after online onboarding tasks are completed.

All candidates must submit an online application, provide proof of highest level of education, two professional references with email address, and complete a TBI/FBI fingerprint background check (fee $39) before consideration.

At the end of the school year, all active substitutes must submit an "Intent to Return" form by June 30 to remain on the substitute list.
