The following information outlines the roles and responsibilities of a Transition Job Coach funded by a Transition School to Work (TSW) grant
. It is a 10 month position.

  • Works under the guidance of the Director of Special Education and Transition Case Manager for Lauderdale County School System.
  • Assists the Transition case Manager in completing referrals on students for possible Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services.
  • Attends meetings with the Transition Case Manager.
  • Build positive relationships with all students receiving transition services and VR services.
  • Attend district trainings and TSW Job Fairs.
  • Teach students job skills, interview skills, and provide hands-on job experience within the local community.
  • Teach students independent living skills, self advocacy, proper personal hygiene and how to work properly with co-workers.
  • Teach a basic job skills curriculum.
  • Teach students how to incorporate technology skills into a work environment.
  • Communicate with high school Work Base Learning teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Education:
  • High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Special Knowledge/

Skills:
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
Experience:
  • Two (2) years experience working with children
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
  • Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds);
    Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment
  • Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Candidates must successfully pass a background check. Please note that any job offer extended will be contingent upon the results of both TBI and DCS background checks.
