- Precision Tracking:
Use electronic walk‑over tracking systems to monitor the depth, pitch, and position of the drill head in real‑time. - Crew Coordination:
Provide clear communication to the Drill Operator via hand signals or two‑way radio to guide steering adjustments. - Utility Safety:
Verify all existing “call‑before‑you‑dig” (811) marks and “pothole”‑sensitive utilities to prevent strikes and ensure safe clearance. - Bore Path Planning:
Read and interpret blueprints and utility maps to determine the most efficient and safe path for the bore. - Site Documentation:
Maintain accurate bore logs, including depth readings and rod counts, to provide “as‑built” documentation upon completion. - Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure tracking electronics are calibrated daily and maintain drill bits, beacons, and batteries. - Misc:
Dig lightly with a shovel when necessary, work overtime, travel, and perform on‑call/after‑hours responsibilities as needed, perform work in all weather conditions.
- Age/Status:
Must be 18 years of age or older, authorized to work in the United States for this company, and possess a High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience. - Experience:
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in underground utility construction, specifically in a locating or HDD support role. - Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with HDD locating equipment and an understanding of “clock‑face” steering. - Physical Stamina:
Ability to walk for long periods over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs. - Safety Mindset:
Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards and utility damage prevention protocols. - Licensing:
Valid driver’s license (CDL Class A is a significant plus for North Sky roles).
Wage range: $28.00 – $35.00 per hour.
