The City of Ripon is seeking a hands‑on, approachable leader to serve as Public Works Supervisor— someone who can manage and guide crews across streets, storm sewers, parks, cemeteries, urban forestry, solid waste, and snow/ice control, while planning, coordinating, and keeping projects on track. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator who leads by example, listens, collaborates, and fosters a team‑oriented work environment, with technical expertise and safety knowledge as valuable assets.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3 PM (year‑round on‑call for snow/ice removal and emergencies)

Compensation Package: $31.63 – $36.37/hour (based on experience), State Health Insurance, Leave Benefits, Wisconsin Retirement System participation

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and support operators and mechanics in daily operations.
  • Plan, schedule, and direct maintenance projects, snow/ice control, and other public works activities.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high‑quality standards.
  • Oversee contractors and coordinate public service requests.
  • Assist with budgeting, capital planning, and routine reporting.
  • Serve as a hands‑on leader during emergencies and high‑priority projects.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and approachable team culture.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Public works operations knowledge, supervisory experience, planning/coordination, and teamwork.
  • Safety awareness, technical expertise, approachability, and a mindset of continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility, collaboration with higher management, and people‑oriented leadership are highly valued.
  • On‑Call Availability (30‑minute Emergency Response).
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and several years of public works or related experience. Technical training or certifications are a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and Class B CDL with tanker endorsement.
