Disability Resources Center Director

Directs program and staffing strategy and services, develops budget, and maintains relationship with stakeholders to ensure access to the physical, educational and social actives of the institution.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements, and monitors disability service eligibility, advising, and delivery of accommodation services.
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
  • Develops and oversee the strategic planning, analysis, and expenditures of the accessibility services program budget.
  • Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the unit.
  • Develops, interprets, and implements university policy in compliance with federal and state law to ensure equal access to university accessibility programs and services.
  • Advocates and collaborates for the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of campus life and promote a campus philosophy that adheres to universal design principles.
  • Determines reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Oversees the Ability Services Self-Enroll Canvas Course (Ability Services Access Training Course).
  • Manages and coordinates the Ability Services Summer Jumpstart program and First-Year Mentoring Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in supervising professional staff, managing program budget, and coordinating long-term goals and priorities preferred.
  • Expertise in the application of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in a higher education setting, and the ability to recognize and understand regulatory requirements associated with disability and accommodation issues.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion, with the ability to manage highly confidential information.
  • The ability to communicate and interact with people of diverse ages, backgrounds, experiences, and personality types.
  • Ability to exercise a moderate to a high degree of independent judgment.
