EES Coke Operations is a facility in River Rouge, MI on Zug Island. The plant produces coke from various types of coal blends and is then used as fuel in the blast furnaces at the steel mill.
This is not a position with Detroit Edison, it's a position with EES Coke Battery, which is a subsidiary of DTE Energy.
The position includes health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance starting day one of employment.
Currently, we are offering a $2,500 signing bonus and an additional $2,500 upon successful completion of the probationary period of 1,040 hours. This position also receives quarterly bonuses of up to $7,500 per year, based on EES Coke Battery’s quality and production.

The person in this job will work a 12‑hour rotating shift. The schedule is a 4‑week rotation; you will work 14 out of 28 days with 7 days off in a row somewhere within the 4‑week rotation.
Job SummaryPerforms all maintenance functions necessary to maintain all operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment including mobile equipment as required. Operates equipment in conjunction with repairs and provides assistance in operating functions as necessary to maintain continuity of operations. May work alone, with minimal supervision or with other Maintenance Technicians and coordinates and works in conjunction with operating team members in the performance of maintenance tasks.
This role participates in our structured Pay for Skill Program, offering advancement from Electrician I to Electrician III with sub‑levels A, B, and
C. This job has three levels (A, B,
C) that an individual may progress through once the minimum experience requirement is met and the written test is passed. The Electrician I may progress to the next level when the practical hands‑on and proficiency tests have been passed. Passing the first test within a level will earn the electrician the mid‑range pay rate, and the second test passed will progress the electrician to the third and highest pay rate within that level.
Accountabilities
- Maintains various types of machinery in the coke making process
- Participates in safety activities to meet or exceed organizational goals and expectations

- A high school diploma or GED
- A valid driver’s license
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience, including knowledge of basic motor starter, how to use a voltmeter to troubleshoot, understanding of motor schematic, reading electrical prints, checking fuses, OL’s, transformer, contractors, use of a Megger, understanding of power distribution 1‑line, and qualification in arc flash
- Must pass written test on general electrical knowledge
- Strong safety experience
- Ability to work in a team orientated atmosphere
- Demonstrated capability to achieve results through people, technology, and processing equipment
- Good knowledge of the assigned area(s) of responsibility
- Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
- Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with coworkers and business unit leaders

- Sit, stand, or walk for a minimum of 8‑hour shifts, including walking long distances, up and down stairs and on uneven ground
- Frequently lift objects of up to 70 pounds in weight and carry objects of up to 50 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects of up to 100 pounds in weight
- Frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or occasionally, crawl
- Enter and work in confined space areas
- Talk & hear; use hands & fingers; handle & feel; and able to reach with hands and arms extensively
