Description
The Department of Finance, Corporate Accounting Division, is seeking a Corporate Accountant I in the Accounts Payable Section. This position reports to the Corporate Accounts Payable Manager.
Examples of Important Duties- Processes contract payments and maintain related retainage records.
- Processes other payment types. (i.e. purchase orders, expense reports, employee advances, petty cash, utilities, land acquisitions, etc.)
- Verifies and reconciles utility data interfaced to the accounting system.
- Prepares cash requirements report for scheduled vendor payments.
- Participates in weekly payment runs.
- Processes and submits positive pay and ACH files to the bank and verifies totals.
- Prepares and posts journal entries.
- Prepares account reconciliations.
- Develops and maintains procedures.
- Responsible for financials statements, schedules and responding to inquiries and data requests for the annual audit.
- Research and resolve issues with vendors and operations staff.
- Responds to customer inquiries.
- Maintains account codes and vendor updates in subsidiary systems.
- Participates in software implementations, system upgrades and testing.
- The ability to perform account analysis.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel.
- Good interpersonal/customer service skills and ability to effectively interact with others.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills with various staff levels.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work with Enterprise System software, on-line financial systems and other user-friendly specialized software.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or any related field.
- One (1) year of experience in accounting that includes work in the range of duties and responsibilities in this class specification.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 5 years.
