Summary / ObjectiveThe System Safety & Security Intern (SSSI) reports directly to the System Safety & Security Manager (SSSM). The SSSI is responsible for supporting projects within the System Safety & Security (3S) Practice in strict compliance with client contract requirements. Core responsibilities include database maintenance, entering, revising, validating, retrieving and preparing reports, and conducting project‑specific safety and security activities.
Essential Functions- Participate in and assist with the System Safety & Security Certification process to ensure compliance with the System Safety Program Plan.
- Prepare safety and security progress reports for monthly submission.
- Monitor and review notices distributed via the project's electronic document system.
- Conduct data analysis of accident statistics.
- Work closely with the System Safety & Security Team to promote system safety throughout the project.
- Track and monitor identified hazards.
- Serve as an active participant on various internal and external committees and groups, recording minutes of meetings.
- Prepare necessary CDRLs and coordinate with the Project Management Plan (PMP) and other affected documents.
- Record and assign hazard analysis findings to individual design disciplines, ensuring findings are defined in detail and understood.
- Evaluate and ensure approaches to technical issues for each hazard are thorough and complete.
- Prepare monthly status reports for System Safety, identifying all outstanding action items and the planned approach to accomplishment.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a safety, engineering or mathematical science related field or have an equivalent number of years of experience.
- Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Must have a working knowledge or the ability to learn the physical and operating characteristics of passenger vehicles and facilities.
- Must possess a working knowledge of accepted techniques for data evaluation, mathematical analyses and statistical development.
- Required to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate personal computer systems and develop/maintain business applications using standard software such as Windows, MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Required to possess demonstrable skills to effectively present statistical information in computer‑generated reports including graphs and charts.
- Must possess a temperament suitable to effectively relate to all levels of personnel, clients, external business contacts and the general public.
