Electrician Grade T04

Overview

The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is an award‑winning organization with over 5,000 employees that administers more than 52,000 acres of parks, neighborhood parks and recreational areas throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. In Prince George’s County, the Commission is also responsible for developing the County’s public recreation programs.

• Receives work orders for electrical projects and interprets building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings to perform routine electrical work or build new structures.
• Performs electrical repair for unique facilities such as historical structures requiring compliance with historical preservation guidelines.
• Uses a variety of tools and instruments to work on simple projects or assist on major projects; performs preventive maintenance and repairs on tools, equipment, HVACR, plumbing, lighting, and communications systems.
• Troubleshoots electrical circuits and equipment using appropriate testing devices; locates and marks buried electrical lines.
• Operates bucket trucks and trenchers to dig trenches, set poles, run electrical cables, and install lights.
• Completes required administrative paperwork and record‑keeping.
• Drives and maintains vehicles, loads and unloads equipment, and ensures safe operation of work sites.
• Guards trades apprentices and maintenance workers, ensuring work is completed satisfactorily.
• Provides instruction on safety measures and personal protective equipment to prevent ADA barrier removal tasks.
• Attends training to increase knowledge, awareness, and safety.
• Performs repairs on electrical vehicle charging stations under guidance of an authorized representative.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship program or four (4) years of progressively responsible electrical experience.
• Equivalency of education and experience may be substituted for a total of four (4) years.
• Journey Electrician’s license issued by the appropriate local jurisdiction.
• Valid driver’s license with no restrictions that would impair safe driving of Commission vehicles.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required for specific assignments.
• Pass Commission medical examination.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varied weather, confined spaces, heights, noise, dust, and fumes. Positions may require emergencies response and heavy manual labor including moving equipment and ladders up to 75 pounds. Employees must be available for shifts outside normal hours.

• Change ballasts and lamps.
• Reset circuit breakers, receptacles, and switches.
• Label and identify circuits.
• Run new EMT (electrical metallic tubing), pull new wires, and install new fixtures.
