POSITION SUMMARY: The Early Learning Instructional Specialist will work under the direction of the Early Learning Coordinator and support the implementation of instructional and Program requirements in Prekindergarten Department and Early Learning Initiatives of the district. The Early Learning Instructional Specialist will support teachers in planning, developing and using appropriate strategies and resources to support instruction. The Early Learning Instructional Specialist will assist with planning and implementing professional development, student assessment processes and initiating, supporting, and monitoring the referral and Response to Intervention Pre-kindergarten.

In addition, observing classroom instruction, management, and compliance of the classroom environment.
This position is grant funded and thereby staffed year-to-year. This position reports to the Early Learning Coordinator for the duration of the grant.

Provides support to teachers to ensure that best practices for effective instruction are utilized. Analyzes data to determine strategy and monitor program effectiveness. Recommends and selects resources and strategies and assists with use of resources.

Assists teachers and school administrators with planning and implementing a rich language and literacy development program and a well-developed foundational numeracy skills program in Pre-Kindergarten and support all areas/domains of Georgia Early Learning Development Standards (GELDS). Provides support with understanding of standards and interpreting data of unit, benchmark, and EOY assessments.

Monitors and ensures that Bright from the Start requirements are implemented. Provides intervention strategies for teachers to assist with academic concerns of students.

Collaborates with Special Education, K-2 Early Childhood, CTAE, and Child Tech Departments to support early learning.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Reading, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field required.

Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in a P- 12 setting required. School level leadership experience preferred.

Experience working with students in primary (Special Ed., Pre-K-2nd) setting preferred. Experience planning and implementing professional learning opportunities preferred.

Makes moderate decisions and recommendations which effect the Pre-Kindergarten activities of others.

GaPSC certification at Level 4 or higher in Early Childhood Education required.

Moderate independent judgment is necessary. Decision-making and problem solving on an as needed basis to establish operation in the Pre-Kindergarten program.

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.
