Under limited supervision, the incumbent of this position performs a variety of semi‑skilled work in the maintenance of City properties. The incumbent maintains landscaping, mowing, building grounds, right‑of‑ways, street debris, garbage pick‑up, and drain clean‑outs, as well as repairs potholes and minor road‑work.
Major Duties- Mows City right‑of‑ways, medians, building grounds, athletic fields and park grounds.
- Plants trees and shrubbery.
- Trims and edges sidewalks, curbs, and beds.
- Performs mulch/pine straw application and replacement.
- Conducts weed eating and weed control.
- Cuts trees & bushes, including trimming/cutting limbs, and pruning as required.
- Picks up debris/trash from the streets and cleans storm drains.
- Performs and completes preventative and repair maintenance procedures on City facilities.
- Performs basic carpentry and plumbing work.
- Completes small construction projects when necessary.
- Operates assigned equipment in the maintenance and repair of City roads, streets, and drainage systems, including gasoline and diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment, light‑to‑medium‑duty trucks, tractors, wood chippers, backhoes and various machines, tools, and powered equipment.
- Patches pot holes and performs other tasks in repairing streets and maintaining sidewalks.
- Erects and maintains City street signs and traffic control signs.
- Provides set‑up and break‑down services for meetings, activities, and special events.
- Constructs, arranges, and moves furniture and equipment as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in building and/or roadway maintenance.
- Basic carpentry skills.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Certification in HVAC is preferred, but not required.
