Job Responsibilities
- Functional Expertise:
- Responsible for performing all fleet vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance related activities in accordance with defined fleet procedures.
- Responsible to perform repair related activities to all fleet vehicles and equipment, in accordance with defined fleet procedures, company policies and state and federal regulations.
- Responsible to perform advanced diagnostic and repair related activities, including vehicle emissions, power train management, body control and electrical systems to all fleet vehicles and equipment, in accordance with defined fleet procedures, company policies and state and federal regulations.
- Performs road or operational tests for all fleet vehicles and equipment and makes diagnosis from the symptoms.
- Business Acumen:
- Organizes and effectively manages daily work assignments; and accurately records time, material and service charges into the fleet management system, in accordance with company policies, procedures and defined fleet work practices.
- Engagement:
- Engages with fleet operators and department personnel in a courteous manner and ensures transparency on fleet maintenance and transportation related activities.
- Provides support to third party fleet service providers to ensure overall effectiveness in fleet maintenance related activities.
- Driving Results:
- Provides timely and accurate compliance records information on pending and completed fleet vehicle maintenance activities into system of record.
- Generates reports as needed.
- Qualifications – Mechanic
- Required:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Two (2) years vocational/technical automotive school or one (1) year vocational/technical automotive school with two (2) years of fleet/automotive experience or equivalent or 3 to 5-years experience in automotive or medium/heavy duty truck work, including preventive and corrective maintenance, brake systems, electrical systems and tire mounting.
- Valid state driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a learner’s commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 6-months from date of hire.
- Ability to obtain a CDL within 12-months of hire date.
- Maintain CDL throughout employment.
- Ability to promote to the Lead Mechanic position within 24-months from hire date.
- Preferred:
- Class A commercial driver’s license
- Exposure to utility, municipal or commercial fleet maintenance environment
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in Auto, Medium-Heavy Truck, or Alternative Fuels
- Required:
- MS Office Suite (i.e. MS Outlook, MS Edge, MS Word) – basic proficiency
- Ability to read and understand policies, standards and procedures.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to timely obtain and retain company required driving, safety and compliance training/certifications.
- Ability to comprehend and complete company defined hands-on training requirements of all preventive maintenance procedures and new types of equipment for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Preferred:
- Knowledge of the EAM fleet maintenance system
- Knowledge of natural gas vehicles and related support systems
- Occasional Traveler (5-20% travel):
The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require overnight stay away from home for one or more nights. - This position requires constant standing or walking.
- This position frequently requires the incumbent to reach above shoulder level
- This position frequently requires the incumbent to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- This position requires the ability to lift 50 plus pounds
- The position requires flexibility in working shifts as required.
