General Summary & Scope
The Specialty Artist – MAC is responsible for maximizing sales in the MAC brand (color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance) by engaging guests to determine their needs, assisting with selection and purchase, and maintaining store standards including cleanliness and replenishment. This role represents the image, products, and culture of Ulta Beauty and the MAC brand to guests and supports the Experience Manager (EM) through focus on performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service and associate culture), and process (operating procedures and compliance).
This position requires professional caliber makeup artistry skills, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), omni-channel, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships by engaging existing guests, maintaining an active preferred guest list, and following up on inquiries.
- Ensure exceptional service by greeting and engaging every guest, personalizing service, offering samples, and recommending complementary products and/or services.
- Conduct personalized makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations to MAC and Ulta Beauty brand standards.
- Study and practice Skill Certification requirements and complete as many skill sets as appropriate within the time frame set by Ulta Beauty and MAC.
- Stay informed about promotions and marketing initiatives within the brand and categories/departments of the store.
- Book appointments for services and in-store events that deliver an enhanced guest experience while meeting MAC brand and store sales goals.
- Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
- Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates and guests.
- Share guest loyalty program benefits (including credit and the Ulta Beauty app) with guests on the sales floor.
- Maintain and update an active MAC brand sales clientele portfolio.
- Serve as an Ulta Beauty and MAC brand ambassador by sharing product knowledge, makeup techniques, trends, and MAC consciousness programs and philosophies, including the “Back to MAC” program.
- Maintain strong relationships with MAC brand partners through trainings and in-store events and promotions.
- Participate in ongoing training to enable professional development and drive MAC brand sales.
- Collaborate with managers and associates to help grow the business.
Process
- Adhere to Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow the dress code and wear brand assets as directed.
- Drive sales by keeping work areas replenished, sign'ed, and faced; ensure testers are available and maintained in hygiene standards.
- Maintain store and MAC operational standards, including participation in the MAC recycling program and cleanliness of areas (salesfloor, restrooms, cashwrap, backroom, break area).
- Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, inventory procedures, and shipment processing using Ulta Beauty and MAC brand tools.
- Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and delivering exceptional guest service.
- Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma preferred
- Cosmetology or demonstrator license where required by state law
Experience
- Cosmetics artistry experience preferred
