Position Overview
The County of Riverside’s Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks to fill a Temporary Code Enforcement Aide position to support the Code Enforcement Department in Riverside. The role blends clerical and field-based responsibilities, requiring excellent customer service, communication with the public and department staff, and assistance with a variety of day-to-day departmental activities.

About TAPAbout TAP: The Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) recruits and hires temporary employees for all County departments. TAP assignments offer a learning experience while working on a temporary, at‑will basis.
Responsibilities- Perform complex clerical work requiring application of code enforcement and community improvement policies, laws, and specialized terminology.
- Prepare and process code enforcement complaints, reviewing complex source material and demonstrating familiarity with land use and building policies, procedures, terminology, and applicable laws to open and prepare case files for investigation.
- Provide information to the public or agency representatives where judgment and interpretation of departmental policies and regulations are required.
- Review case file material, reports, forms, and records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable ordinances.
- Answer inquiries involving searching for and summarizing technical land use, zoning, building or housing code data, laws, policies, or procedures; answer questions regarding the Community Improvement Program and activities.
- Perform routine non‑contact investigations.
- Compile documents and investigative reports, locating information sources, devising forms to secure data, and determining proper format for finished documents; design or revise office forms.
- Set up and maintain complex code enforcement filing and/or Community Improvement Program systems.
- Initiate replies to routine correspondence, compose correspondence and simple investigative reports, and provide technical guidance to other clerical staff; prepare and revise written procedures.
- Type a wide variety of complex code enforcement and/or community improvement materials, utilizing information processing equipment; develop automated files, maintain storage media, and create standardized document formats.
- Operate computerized and standard office equipment, isolate and resolve equipment and procedural problems, perform system backups, maintain archived record libraries and case reference logs, and serve as a technical expert on information processing equipment.
Experience: Two years of clerical experience. One year of related college or university coursework may substitute for one year of required experience.
Knowledge of: Principles, methods, and equipment used in information processing; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, format, and style; office procedures including preparing correspondence and reports, filing, and operating standard office equipment.
Ability to: Understand the capabilities and applications of information processing equipment; meet departmental production and accuracy standards; read and interpret maps, property descriptions, and related documents; learn, understand, apply, and explain regulations and policies related to building, housing codes, land use and zoning, and community improvement programs; compile information from various sources; communicate effectively; deal tactfully and courteously with the public;
and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required.
Skills: Type 25 net words per minute.
Test: All candidates will be required to take a typing test prior to consideration for a Code Enforcement Aide position.
