These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Summer Program Coordinators is a leadership role responsible for supporting the safe, effective, and engaging operation of YMCA Camp Loma Mar's summer programs. Reporting to the Youth & Family Program Director, Coordinators serve on the Summer Leadership Team and provide oversight, coordination, and support across daily camp operations, staff supervision, camper experience, and program execution.
Summer Program Coordinators collaborate closely with fellow coordinators, Village Leaders, Program Leads, and counselors to ensure clear communication, strong supervision, smooth transitions, and a positive camp culture rooted in YMCA core values. Coordinators participate in an overnight on-call rotation and support camp-wide programs, staff mentoring, and problem-solving as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to assigned staff teams.
- Model professionalism, accountability, and YMCA core values.
- Mentor staff through coaching, feedback, and real-time problem solving.
- Support onboarding, training reinforcement, and staff development.
Program Operations & Camper Experience
- Support daily camp operations to ensure safe, engaging, and well-coordinated programming.
- Assist with planning and execution of camp-wide programs and special events.
- Help maintain consistency in camper experience, supervision standards, and expectations.
- Uphold YMCA, ACA, and California organized camp standards.
- Monitor supervision, transitions, and staff coverage to minimize risk.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and behavioral concerns.
- Complete required documentation and reporting accurately and on time.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with leadership, staff, and families when appropriate.
- Collaborate with other Coordinators to ensure alignment across camp systems.
- Support operational flow, scheduling needs, and daily adjustments as assigned.
Professional Expectations
- Participate in leadership meetings, trainings, and overnight on-call rotation.
- Follow all YMCA policies including child abuse prevention, conduct, dress code, and emergency procedures.
- Support a culture of inclusion, belonging, stewardship, and community.

- Primarily outdoors in variable weather and terrain.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, and respond quickly to emergencies.
- Long and irregular hours including evenings and overnight on-call duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age 19–21 depending on role requirements.
- Prior experience in camp, youth development, education, or leadership roles preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse staff and camper populations.
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (within 30 days of hire).
