Responsibilities

  • Manage staff, pursue new work opportunities, contribute to business development.
  • Write proposals, conduct interviews, prepare cost proposals.
  • Provide inspection and quality assurance on highway and roadway construction projects; assess if completed work follows the plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate work with the contractor and various public utilities agencies.
  • Maintain records and reports related to the project.
  • Coordinate directly with the general contractor and negotiate change orders.
  • Assist in inspections to assure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and special provisions on all phases of structural construction (bridges, foundations, walls, falsework, shoring, and drainage structures).
  • Make or support grade, alignment, quantity, falsework, and shoring calculations.
  • Assist in the preparation of contract change orders, contract estimates, progress pay estimates, and other documents or reports required for the project.
  • Coordinate sampling and testing of construction materials to monitor compliance with contract specifications.
  • Monitor and track contractor progress; prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
  • Coordinate with the project team, as well as the Construction Staking and Material Testing CMCs.
  • Onsite at client site – work location is onsite with clients and partners to enable delivery and cultivate relationships.
  • Provide in‑person collaboration, learning, and building relationships with clients, peers, leaders, and communities; flexible support for specific work/life needs.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California.
  • Minimum 1 construction highway project for or on Caltrans.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience conducting roadway and highway construction inspection on major public works projects.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with physical characteristics and properties of various roadway and bridge construction materials including concrete and steel.
  • Bonus:
    Ability to work independently.
  • Bonus:
    Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems.
  • Bonus:
    Ability to direct the efforts of subordinate inspectors.
  • Bonus:
    Expertise in toll road projects including tolling systems.
Benefits

$225,000 - $250,000 a year.

Compensation varies by location, role, skill set, and experience. Salary ranges are set as above for positions in Illinois, Minnesota, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, or Washington.
