Summary
The Coordinator of Academic Advising supports the daily operations of the Office of Academic Advising and fosters a welcoming, student‑centered environment for those seeking academic guidance and support. This position oversees front‑office functions, supervises student employees, manages scheduling and communications, and provides support for advising initiatives and office projects. By connecting students with appropriate advising resources and assisting Student Success Coaches, the Coordinator helps deliver a cohesive advising experience that promotes student success and timely academic progress.
Compensation
Compensation for this position is expected to range between $24.00 and $24.50 per hour, in alignment with what California Baptist University reasonably anticipates paying for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Front desk and visitor services: Serve as the primary front‑office contact for Academic Advising at California Baptist University (CBU) by welcoming and assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors seeking information or services, while fostering a friendly, supportive, and professional environment.Communication management: Answer, screen, and route telephone calls and electronic communications; respond to general inquiries regarding Academic Advising services, policies, and procedures; and support advising communications through website updates, social media content, and other public‑facing messaging that promotes advising resources and services.Appointment scheduling and calendar coordination: Coordinate appointment scheduling for Student Success Coaches by maintaining advising calendars and assisting students with setting up advising appointments.Student connection and resource referral: Support student retention efforts by connecting students with appropriate advising resources, identifying individuals who may need additional support, and facilitating timely referrals and follow‑up as appropriate.Advising and registration support: Assist students with general advising and registration‑related questions, including course enrollment processes, and direct them to appropriate academic resources or staff when needed.Student worker supervision: Supervise student employees by coordinating schedules, assigning duties, monitoring workflow, and supporting training and professional development.Office operations and administrative coordination: Coordinate daily office operations and administrative functions, including managing correspondence, maintaining records, preparing routine communications, and ensuring accurate, organized documentation and files.Event and initiative support: Assist with the planning and coordination of advising events, workshops, training sessions, outreach initiatives, and projects that support student engagement and the work of Student Success Coaches.Operational support and special projects: Support advising leadership through data tracking and reporting, maintaining office resources and supplies, and contributing to special projects or additional operational needs as assigned.Leadership and cross‑unit support: Provide ongoing operational and administrative support to advising leadership and contribute to initiatives that strengthen Academic Advising and collaboration with the Office of Student Success.Skills and Abilities- Demonstrated commitment to living out and upholding the University’s Christ‑centered mission and values.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment while managing and maintaining confidential information.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers and standard office software applications.
