Job Overview

Assists in the development, coordination, and implementation of services to provide program‑specific assistance to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including career/vocational and academic assistance; advises participants on career options, financial aid, scholarships, associate degrees, and transfer requirements; develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies; and performs case management of select student populations and makes referrals to improve student success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized support to student success programs.
  • Assist students in navigating enrollment, educational pathways, and course selection.
  • Work with culturally diverse student populations.
  • Manage caseload and confidential student files.
  • Establish long‑term mentoring relationships to improve academic performance.
  • Develop measurable goals and objectives, set priorities, and evaluate student progress.
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for at‑risk youths.
  • Host and conduct workshops to facilitate student success.
  • Follow through with students to ensure they meet class guidelines and maintain deadlines.
  • Prepare educational materials such as flyers, newsletters, and related documents.
  • Establish and maintain filing, recordkeeping, and tracking systems.
  • Independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
  • Use computer systems, software applications, and business equipment effectively.
  • Communicate effectively in the course of performing work tasks.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster effective working relationships.
  • Provide high‑level customer service to the public, vendors, contractors, and district personnel.
  • Coordinate and implement field trips, conferences, and other events.
  • Collaborate with academic services and support programs.
  • Serve as an educational advocate and mentor, assisting in enrollment and course registration.
  • Maintain organized files and strict confidentiality of student information.
  • Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as time management, study strategies, goal setting, and career planning.
  • Consult with community services and local school districts to explain program requirements.
  • Plan, direct, and review the work of assigned staff and ensure staff training.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, or related field, plus four years of experience in higher education providing educational services to students; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience and Knowledge:
    • Program offerings related to student attraction and retention.
    • Community resources for students and families.
    • Case management principles.
    • Community college matriculation process and services.
    • Program eligibility rules and regulations.
    • Financial aid resources available to students.
    • Educational challenges faced by at‑risk, first‑generation, or low‑income college students.
    • Student success and retention strategies.
    • Principles of non‑cognitive assessment tools.
    • Effective event and activity planning.
    • Mentorship principles.
    • Methods of preparing materials and delivering workshops.
    • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and organizational policies and procedures.
    • Research practices.
    • Mathematical skills.
    • General business office administrative procedures.
    • Record‑keeping principles and practices.
  • Abilities:
