UC Riverside’s Center for Early Childhood Education is recruiting for multiple part‑time Classroom Assistants (Limited). The full salary range for the Classroom Assistant (Limited) is $21.92–$25.10 per hour. These positions may not exceed 1,000 working hours in a 12‑month consecutive period. Hours will vary or rotate based on classroom needs.
Key Responsibilities- Supervision:
Provide supervision of all assigned children, both indoors and outdoors, as directed by the Lead Teacher (≈50% of time). - Health and Safety:
Maintain a safe and healthy indoor and outdoor environment, including cleaning, disinfecting, and assistance with lunch/staff prep and cleanup (≈25%). - Daily Routine:
Prepare and observe learning activities, assist in opening and closing routines, and support children with toileting, hand washing, rest, and meal times (≈15%). - Professional Development:
Attend monthly staff meetings, bi‑weekly team meetings, and professional development sessions (≈10%).
- 6 units of Early Childhood Education.
- Required Associate’s degree in early childhood education; preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a licensed child development center (required).
- Associate Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (preferred).
- Must successfully pass a DOJ/FBI fingerprint ("Live Scan") background check prior to appointment start date, per Title 22.
- Negative TB test and background check clearance required prior to start.
- Employees must be 18 years of age, a high school graduate, or currently participating in an occupational program at high school.
- Knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards for toileting, food handling and hand washing.
- Knowledge of NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
- Knowledge of current philosophies and research in early care and education, pre‑K guidelines, and early literacy.
- Skill to communicate effectively with children, staff and parents.
- Skill to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Skill to take direction in meeting children’s needs, classroom needs and parent needs.
- Physical ability to lift and carry children up to 30 pounds frequently and as necessary.
- Ability to perform CPR/First Aid on children who have been injured and may be unable to stand up and/or walk.
