Salary: $66,500 – $118,300 per year (expected pay up to $97,840)
Duration: 24‑month contract funded by UC Office of the President (UCOP)
OverviewThis contract Instructional Designer will participate as a training, education, or instructional design professional in a systemwide program or project. The individual will select technologies and tools, create supportive learning activities, develop new training in response to the University's needs, and collaborate to produce multimedia content on an established schedule. The role also involves analyzing training needs, providing testing support, ensuring functional and compliant courses, and contributing to a Center of Excellence team with UC system‑wide impact.
Key Responsibilities- Develop new training programs and courses in response to organizational training needs.
- Develop online and in‑person training courses, create multimedia content, video or audio components, and oversee production according to schedule.
- Apply professional instructional design skills to articulate course design, learning objectives, supportive activities, assessments, and appropriate technologies.
- Apply professional training and development skills to resolve a wide range of training issues and needs assessments.
- Apply project and program management practices.
- Provide support for testing courses to ensure functionality, design with learning in mind, and compliance.
- Prepare reports, coordinate purchase orders, arrange travel, manage calendars, and maintain webpages.
- Deliver instructor‑led training and presentations.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training (required).
- Advanced degree in education, instructional design, technology, public administration, safety, health, or related field (preferred).
- 4–7 years of related experience (required).
- Minimum 2 years of combined experience developing videos, online training, and/or blended learning (required).
- Minimum 2 years of experience with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate/Presenter) and video production software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Camtasia) (preferred).
- Travel between university settings/locations/venues required.
- Travel outside of normal business hours required.
- Candidate must pass a background check.
- Strong analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of current training programs, trends, adult learning theories, education methodologies, and relevant software systems.
- Strong skills in needs assessment and new training development.
- Knowledge of functional area and how work impacts other areas.
- Organizational knowledge of policies, procedures, and HR practices.
- Skills in planning, resourcing, and monitoring effective delivery of training.
- Knowledge of training and development, performance management, workplace learning, and educational technology trends.
- Experience with business software systems:
Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. - University of California experience or familiarity with higher education institutions or non‑profit organizations.
