As a Youth Development Specialist, you are the heart of the student experience, bringing the mission to life directly at school sites throughout the Riverside Unified School District. You aren't just supervising—you are a mentor and a guide, transforming after-school hours into a vibrant environment where students feel safe, motivated, and empowered.
By leading dynamic HEARTS (Helping Elementary Achievers Reach the Stars) and Prime Time Program activities and providing intentional academic support, you will spark curiosity and build confidence in local youth. You will use active supervision and positive behavior management to ensure every program space is a secure, inclusive, and organized hub of growth and fun. This is a unique opportunity to shape the social and academic futures of RUSD students through meaningful connection and daily role modeling right where they learn and play.
This is an after school/summer contracted position with RUSD and is subject to RUSD guidelines & rules.
Job Responsibilities )
Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development.
Outcomes:
- Promote and stimulate program participation with members.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Provide homework help
Program Implementation
- Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students.
- Ensure the safety of students is considered when implementing programs and activities.
- Ensure program space/area is organized and cleaned during and after use.
Supervision of Youth
- Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth.
- Provide a safe environment through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas.
- Never leave members unsupervised and implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.
Professionalism
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by the supervisor or senior staff.
- Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization's Employee Handbook, Staff Code of Ethics, and elsewhere.
- May participate in special programs and/or events.
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External:
Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass the School District Instructional Aide Test/ESSA Test.
- Experience working with children (preferred).
- Able to review and implement lesson plans provided by the district.
- Knowledge of youth development stages.
- Early Childhood education credits are a plus.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to deal with the general public.
- Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Interpersonal skill development and maintenance.
- Valid State Driver License or California .
- Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check.
- CPR & First Aid Certifications within 90 of hire.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, carts, sports equipment, etc. and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and multi-task. The job requires about 85% walking and/or standing, and 15% sitting. This position will be in-person working at a school site.
Exposure to noise. Will work inside and outside.
