Job Title
Seeking a dedicated, flexible, caring, and energetic individual who is committed to supporting our school community. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with students in grades K–12 and demonstrate a heart for service, a love for learning, and a desire to help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
This position plays a vital role in assisting teachers, providing supervision, supporting student academic and behavioral interventions, and fostering a positive, Christ-centered school environment.
A teacher's assistant must model Christian character and conduct in interactions with students. Supports the school's statement of faith. Demonstrates a personal commitment to Christian values and supports the mission and beliefs of La Sierra Academy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support classroom teachers with instructional and organizational needs
- Provide supervision for students before school, after school, during recess, lunch, and extended care
- Assist with student academic support and behavioral interventions
- Help maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Escort students safely from cars to the gate and from the gate to cars multiple times per day
- Supervise students during lunch and assist with clean-up
- Grade assignments as directed by teachers
- Provide coverage as a substitute teacher when needed (grades K–12)
- Assist with basic cleaning and classroom organization
- Communicate clearly with staff using walkie-talkies or other school communication devices
- Model and enforce school expectations while disciplining students in a fair, loving, and consistent manner
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student information and adheres to all school policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Enjoys working with children of all ages (K–12)
- Demonstrates patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff
- Heart for service and commitment to supporting students' academic, social, and spiritual growth
- Basic organizational and communication skills
- Prior experience in a school or childcare setting is preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day
- Lift and carry light to moderate items (classroom materials, supplies, etc.)
- Supervise students in outdoor and indoor settings
- Bend, reach, and move around classrooms, playgrounds, and campus areas
- Speak clearly into a walkie-talkie or communication device
- Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed
- Maintain alertness and attentiveness while supervising students
