GRID Alternatives’ Solar Corps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic community members to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term. In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non‑profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice. We are recruiting for both standard and Ameri Corps fellowships.

Summary Of

The Role

We are seeking a full‑time Solar Corps Workforce Technical Training Fellow to engage with the workforce team to support GRID’s workforce development initiatives. Members are trained and supervised by GRID’s workforce development team to provide employability skills and job opportunities in solar to the community. Members will support GRID’s solar job training programs through recruitment efforts, facilitating technical and employment readiness workshops, and providing placement support.

As trainees gain education and experience, the members also gain skills in solar installation and program management that will be transferable within the renewable energy, education, and nonprofit industries.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Assist in teaching solar and clean energy workshops and labs.
  • Attend local events to promote community awareness of GRID’s training programs.
  • Assist in recruiting and selecting trainees, and follow up if needed.
  • Assist in trainee installation days.
  • Support in the creation and documentation of required documents (e.g., DAC‑SASH projects, IREC Accreditation).
  • Participate in solar installations.
Standard Fellowship Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • 11‑month commitment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively.
  • Comfortable being part of a team.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work outdoors, on rooftops, and in extreme temperatures.
  • Strong organizational, multi‑tasking, and decision‑making skills.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need.
  • Availability for an in‑person Mid‑Year weeklong Career Readiness Retreat in California.
Ameri Corps Fellowship Requirements
  • To be eligible for Ameri Corps, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
It Would Be Great If You Also Had …
  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong computer skills such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Ameri Corps Fellowship Compensation & Benefits
  • Full‑time position with a stipend pay of $40,800 over 11 months (approx. $21.40 per hour).
  • Members who complete 1,700 hours of service with GRID and finish the contracted term will be eligible for the Segal Ameri Corps Education Award of $10,000 upon successful completion of the fellowship.
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance; 10 days of personal time off; 13 holidays observed by GRID;
    Employee Assistance Program (EAP); STD, LTD, and AD&D insurance;
    Childcare Assistance if eligible;
    Resource Navigation through Work Life Partnership.
Standard Fellowship Compensation & Benefits
  • Full‑time, non‑exempt position. Hourly pay of $21.40 per hour, plus the benefits listed below.
  • Fellows who complete 1,700 hours with GRID and finish the contracted term will be eligible for a $3,000 cash end‑of‑term award.
