Overview
Shimmick, via our subsidiary, Axia Electric, is seeking a highly talented Electrical Field Engineer based in Riverside, CA. This role will support Axia projects in the region, reporting directly to an experienced Project Manager. Axia Electric, LLC has roots in Shimmick’s electrical work for infrastructure projects, and in 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric.
Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our self-perform capability adds value and helps control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Our clients include municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, transit agencies, private developers, DOTs, and USACE.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the electrical discipline, including installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment, grounding, lightning protection, and fire detection systems.
- Develop work plans, coordinate material take-offs and requisitions, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve conflicts in design and construction related to installation and testing of electrical commodities.
- Establish an electrical design/field engineering working relationship with the Project Engineer, including agreement on electrical engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management.
- Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting, and forecasting for the electrical discipline.
- Coordinate with the Electrical Superintendent for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment including panels, motors, and switch gear.
- Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct electrical materials.
- Coordinate and monitor interfaces for electrical data exchange to support the construction automation plan and the project controls program requirements at the jobsite.
- Support the electrical construction quality program.
- Coordinate with Electrical Superintendent to plan/support construction schedules.
- Plan and recommend electrical procedures to be implemented by Electrical Superintendent to ensure construction operations meet engineering design and specifications.
- Work with project engineering, start-up engineering and operating personnel to coordinate electrical construction activities.
- Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure electrical materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications and interpret vendor design documents and installation manuals.
- Implement controls over variables affecting electrical installation progress such as raceway, cable, terminations, and equipment. Ensure timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and utilization of other corporate programs.
- Plan and prepare electrical work packages.
- Perform other duties as required by the Electrical Superintendent.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Heavy Civil construction and field experience.
- Ability to understand P&’s, Control Schematics, Electrical single-line drawings, and system (I&C, Fire Alarm, HVAC Control, Security) drawings.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require extensive walking on construction sites, climbing ladders and scaffolding, using fall protection and other PPE, and navigating confined spaces.
- Experience in construction and technical inspection of electrical design in areas such as installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment, grounding, and cable pulling activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and a Zero Accident safety program.
