California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Aftermarket Diesel and Off-Road Section (ADORS) within the Emissions Certification and Compliance Division is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, highly motivated, and organized Air Resources Engineer (ARE) to support aftermarket programs. ADORS assesses innovative aftermarket products, including EV conversions, alternative fuel conversions, hybrid conversions, large spark ignition retrofits, diesel retrofits, and other aftermarket technologies (e.g., off-road aftermarket parts, performance parts, telematics devices) for compliance with relevant regulations.

Under supervision of the section manager, engineers evaluate designs and test data of aftermarket parts and retrofit systems. Responsibilities include performing engineering evaluations to determine the impact of performance parts on emissions, analyzing vehicle/engine emission data, preparing reports and technical documentation, developing testing procedures for emission compliance, and preparing correspondence and guidelines for applicants. Evaluation may also involve reviewing manufacturer durability test plans, OBD II compliance, and impacts on vehicle emission control devices.

Engineers support the Verification database, conduct warranty report reviews, support the warranty database, assist with recall activities, and may conduct audits related to aftermarket diesel particulate filters. They may also assist in developing new regulations for emerging aftermarket areas.

Additional information about the role can be found in the Duty Statement.
