Job Description (also see minimum qualifications below): Krieger & Stewart is seeking a versatile individual, interested and capable of performing and supervising both office and field duties related to the Land Surveying profession in support of our engineering projects. PhysicalDemands and Working Conditions
Individual must be capable of working both in-office and outdoors. Office work will be primarily performed at Krieger & Stewart’s office located in downtown Riverside, CA. Field work is primarily performed at job sites throughout Southern California, within one to two hours of the downtown office but occasionally requires overnight stays away.
The conditions of outdoor field work varies considerably depending on the project site and location but can involve rough, unstable and steep terrain, high temperatures (100°F+), direct sun and wind exposure. Physical effort varies considerably but may at times require lifting 50-75lbs, walking 5+ miles and carrying 25+ lbs. of survey equipment. Most field work involves constant movement throughout a typical 8-10 hour workday.
Travel to job sites is included as part of the workday using a company-provided and equipped truck.
Key Duties and Responsibilities of PositionIn responsible charge of survey field work, both directing and performing and boundary surveys, control surveys, topographic mapping surveys, and construction surveying.
Responsible for pre-field survey preparation in office for boundary and control surveys including:
- Record map research, deed review, and record calculations.
- Data migration from AutoCAD Civil 3D design drawings to Trimble Business Center and Trimble Access and project setup in Trimble survey controllers.
Responsible for pre-construction survey preparation in office for construction staking including:
- Review of contract documents and plans.
- Coordination of construction staking with Contractors and District representatives.
- Calculations for construction staking and preparation of cut sheets.
Responsible for post-field survey in office data management including;
- Raw field data download and QA/QC using Trimble Business Center and Trimble Access.
- Archiving field notes, data files, and cut sheets.
- Data migration to AutoCAD Civil 3D and StarNET applications.
Tracking and procuring survey supplies
Survey equipment maintenance and calibration.
KeySkills and Abilities
Needed for Position
In-Field:
- Perform field work independently with minimal concurrent communication and coordination with Project Engineer and/or Project Surveyor.
- Able to track field time and survey progress.
- Able to understand a Scope of Service and Contractor requested construction staking and discuss same with Contractor to insure efficient use of field time.
- Perform independent coordinate geometry calculations utilizing survey controller or calculator.
- Able to identify and find working solutions to survey equipment and communications equipment malfunctions with minimal office support.
- Setting up temporary traffic control and familiarity with the current WATCHBOOK
In-Office:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center and Trimble Access applications, and other relevant software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Bluebeam
- Proficient performing survey research utilizing online city, county and state online archives.
- Proficient reading and interpreting infrastructure improvement plans and construction drawings, utility atlas maps, survey field notes, legal descriptions, parcel and tract maps, records of survey, and Public Land Survey Maps.
- Able to understand a Scope of Service and schedule, coordinate and interpret Contractor staking requests and discuss same with Contractor to insure efficient use of field time.
Possess a CA Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) Certificate.
