This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in California
. This position may be based out of any WSP office in California. It is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer who brings a strong combination of technical leadership, client engagement, and business development experience to help grow our Property & Buildings practice.
This role will actively participate in the full project lifecycle, focusing on complex building sector projects such as K‑12 education, community colleges, higher education, civic and municipal facilities, and industrial, commercial or institutional developments. The successful candidate will support projects from conceptual design through construction close‑out, partnering closely with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
Your Impact- Coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques across all project phases – concept development, preliminary and final design, procurement, construction, and operations.
- Plan and incorporate future‑ready design strategies that address safety, functionality, resiliency, and long‑term performance of building systems.
- Participate from project inception through completion, supporting the management of electrical design and construction activities.
- Oversee and mentor cross‑functional engineering teams on mid‑ to large‑scale projects, including budgets, schedules, resource planning, quality control, and technical execution.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and presentations.
- Provide key technical input on pursuits and proposals, supporting business development efforts and client interviews.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and collaborate with internal leadership and external partners.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making in alignment with WSP’s Code of Conduct and corporate policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required to support business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience as an Electrical Engineer.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical design for building projects, particularly within education and institutional, industrial or commercial sectors, including experience with DSA‑regulated projects.
- Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
- Experience with electrical planning, design, and construction management across renovation and new‑build projects.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple concurrent projects, and deliver high‑quality results.
- Well‑established professional presence with a strong local network.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, and conduct policies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- LEED AP certification.
- 8+ years of Project Management experience on complex building projects.
- Experience supporting client pursuits, proposals, and business growth initiatives.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $129,600–$192,390. WSP USA reserves the right to vary compensation based on education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
