Engineering Technician I/II – Survey Division
Join a leading public agency survey team in Southern California, working on a variety of survey and capital projects from field and office operations.
Responsibilities- Field Assignments:
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction, GPS/GNSS, geodetic, and right‑of‑way surveys
- Operate Total Stations, Levels, GPS/GNSS equipment, and data collectors
- Set monuments, stakes, and survey control
- Collect and process field data, prepare field notes and cut sheets
- Support construction staking operations
- Assist with aerial, mobile, and stationary LiDAR scanning projects
- Work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions
- Office Assignments:
- Research land records, including Records of Survey, Corner Record, Plans and Maps
- Prepare exhibits, plats, and legal descriptions
- Review Right‑of‑way and Street Name changes
- Provide GIS and geospatial data support
- Draft using Bentley Micro Station, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS Pro
- Review minor lands including certificates of compliance and parcel merges
- Manage data and document indexing
- Support survey control and mapping for county capital projects
- Interest in a long‑term career in land surveying or geospatial technology
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and mechanical aptitude
- Experience working outdoors or on construction sites
- Familiarity with GPS/GNSS equipment or surveying software
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with Bentley, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, or Trimble products
- Possession of an LSIT, EIT, or FAA Part 107 license is highly desirable

Field positions operate on a 4/10 schedule (Mon‑Thu, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM). Office positions have an optional 9/80 schedule and include remote‑work privileges.
Physical/Environmental ConditionsPerform duties in office and field, including handling large‑format maps and lifting instruments up to 50 lb. Field work may involve exposure to varied weather and uneven terrain.

- Construction inspection procedures
- Read and interpret legal descriptions and engineering drawings
- Prepare designs, plans, estimates, reports, and specifications
- Collect and analyze traffic, transportation, hydrologic data
- Compile and enter data into computer systems for mapping
- Perform survey field work and inspect public works projects
- Maintain effective relations with others
A valid California driver’s license is required at the time of application due to travel within the county.
