Vice President, Civil Engineering Project Manager

WSP is seeking a full‑time Vice President for its Civil Engineering team in Southern California. The role supports projects across WSP’s California offices and focuses on local agency roadway and civil engineering projects.

Responsibilities
  • People & Performance Leadership
    • Assist in the management, growth and development of the Civil Engineering Transportation team.
    • Partner closely with the Local Business Leader and Senior Management Team.
    • Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the overall success of the West Region.
    • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
    • Recruit key positions, retain current staff.
  • Business Development
    • Support clients and the industry with innovative solutions for transformative transportation projects.
    • Collaborate with local offices and national experts to deliver future‑focused solutions.
    • Advise on business development strategy, client engagement, and pursuits in California.
    • Assist in procuring contracts with preferred contractors.
    • Develop strategic alliances and project partners to secure new work.
    • Represent the firm in client and industry events.
  • Project/Program Management
    • Lead delivery of roadway and transport projects for local agencies in Southern California.
    • Lead key projects as Contract Manager, Project Manager, Sr Lead, or other appropriate roles.
    • Participate in contract negotiations.
    • Guide staff and oversee project financial performance, quality control, and risk management.
    • Ensure delivery of quality PS&E documents, engineering reports, and project memoranda.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
    • Occasional travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Engineer license required (California preferred).
  • 12+ years of relevant post‑education experience in civil engineering and infrastructure design.
  • Ability to lead and grow the civil engineering business.
  • Experience as a project manager, deputy project manager, construction manager, or task lead on projects.
  • Strong leadership skills and adherence to QA/QC standards.
  • In‑depth understanding of A/E/C project delivery, program management, and risk management.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, business acumen, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities for leadership and client interactions.
  • Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and adaptability to dynamic priorities.
  • Proficiency with Caltrans Design Development process, Highway Design, and Construction practices.
  • Technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Established client relationships and industry contacts.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience working with Caltrans and local municipal agencies.
  • Local agency roadway and intersection planning and design experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software such as Micro Station, InRoads/Open Roads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $200,000 – $250,000 (geographically adjusted).
