Staffmark is hiring an experienced Plan Check Engineer for a contract assignment supporting public works and development projects in Riverside, CA. This opportunity is ideal for a Civil Engineer with experience reviewing construction plans, evaluating engineering documents, and ensuring compliance with building codes, municipal standards, and development requirements.

Plan Check Engineer Responsibilities +

Job Duties
  • Review and approve civil engineering plans, construction drawings, grading plans, and development documents for residential, commercial, industrial, and public works projects.
  • Evaluate engineering calculations, hydraulic and hydrology studies, storm drain, sewer, street, and land development plans for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Perform detailed plan reviews to verify projects meet building codes, municipal requirements, environmental standards, and engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate development projects with engineers, architects, contractors, developers, government agencies, and internal departments.
  • Research existing site conditions, verify project requirements, calculate fees, review bonding estimates, and maintain accurate engineering records.
  • Conduct field inspections, investigate construction and drainage concerns, and provide technical recommendations for resolution.
  • Answer questions regarding engineering requirements, permitting processes, regulations, and public works standards.
  • Assist with permit processing, fee calculations, technical reviews, and project completion documentation.
  • Maintain engineering files, reports, records, and documentation while supporting department operations.
Plan Check Engineer Qualifications + Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) certification preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of professional civil engineering experience with exposure to plan review, construction, land development, or public works projects.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, materials, grading, drainage systems, utilities, and infrastructure design.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, calculations, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with building codes, municipal regulations, environmental requirements, and permitting processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with engineers, contractors, developers, and the public.
  • Proficiency with computers, engineering software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently in a professional engineering environment.
