Overview
The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Planning Technician to fill one (1) vacancy in the Planning Division of the Community and Economic Development Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.
The Planning Technician performs general entry level technical and paraprofessional work in the field of urban planning and zoning administration. This position will primarily be assigned to the public information counter.
Responsibilities- Provide customer service to the general public by providing basic information on zoning, General Plan, and development related case processing and engage with supervisor as needed.
- Assist in research, analysis and interpretation of social, economic, population, and land use data and trends.
- Assist, support, and provide technical expertise in preparing written reports on various planning and environmental matters.
- Compile, organize, and present basic information and make recommendations on limited-scope special studies.
- Provide research and technical assistance in drafting ordinances, studies and reports for discussion and evaluation.
- Review basic planning applications that could include, but not be limited to, rezoning, variances, design review.
- Meet, communicate, and engage with property owners/applicants to answer questions related to their property and applications.
- Assist with preparing legal notices for public hearings.
- Complete basic plan checks for conformance with appropriate regulations and conditions of approval.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Equivalent of two (2) years of college (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) toward a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a related field considered to be useful in City Planning work. A Bachelor’s Degree is desirable.
Experience: No experience required; however, the completion of a planning related student internship is highly desirable.
Highly Desired Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in planning or a related field.
- Experience working for a local government agency (internship included).
- Experience in customer service.
