The Safety Coordinator II independently manages and leads safety operations at the division and jobsite level. This role serves as a technical safety resource for operations leadership and field employees, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and customer standards. The Safety Coordinator II plays a key role in advancing safety culture, conducting complex investigations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with operations managers to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, programs, and procedures.
- Serves as a subject matter resource for safety-related matters and provides advanced technical guidance to employees and supervisors.
- Leads efforts to promote a proactive, high-performance safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and on-site engagement.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and customer safety requirements.
- Has authority to stop work or operations that present an imminent risk to employees, the public, or equipment.
- Identifies trends, hazards, and systemic risks and recommends corrective and preventive actions.
- Plans, coordinates, and delivers safety training programs and compliance initiatives.
- Conducts and leads safety inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Leads accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
- Maintains and reviews safety documentation, reports, and metrics to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Participates in special safety projects, program development, and process improvement initiatives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced organizational and multitasking skills with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership and influence skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to interpret and apply safety regulations and standards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to plan and coordinate work to meet deadlines.
- Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- At least three years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment is required, preferably in the construction industry.
- High school diploma required, Completion of college coursework or specialized training in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Must have, or be able to obtain within one year, an initial-level professional safety certification, such as:
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)
- Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
- Valid California Class C driver's license with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier.
