- Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Processing, the Financial Aid Technician III serves the public and executes various programmatic functions.
- Verify accuracy of student information on the FAFSA and Dream Act Application to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations.
- Review for verification completeness, obtain additional student information as necessary, and resolve conflicting data.
- Ensure timely handling of requests for financial aid materials and communicate required documents, eligibility criteria, and related information to students.
- Maintain organization of work area, prioritize workload, and proficiently use automated student information systems (mainframe, PC, web‑based applications).
- Ensure maintenance and disposition of records complies with university policies and federal regulations.
- Interact with students and parents with sensitivity and discretion, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Process and convey complex federal, state, and university financial aid program information accurately and clearly.
- Work effectively with frequent interruptions and adjust priorities as circumstances dictate.
- Valid CA Driver License required.
- Maximum 5 years of demonstrated related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Shift work (hours outside standard Mon‑Fri 8AM‑5PM) is required.
- Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License if driving a university vehicle for university related business.
- Knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid.
- Ability to apply knowledge of policies to individual situations.
- Excellent listening, patience, and ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of internal and external customers.
- Ability to calculate financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with standard office software, internet, and email applications; basic knowledge of common University‑specific computer application programs.
- Advanced organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills; active listening; customer service orientation.
- Knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.
Ability to exercise advising and counseling skills by analyzing a variety of factors (financial data, family circumstances, social background, academic status, educational goals) and applying knowledge of federal, state, University, and outside agency laws, regulations, and policies to determine students' eligibility for various types of financial aid.
