Assistant Director, Residential Education
The Assistant Director of Residential Education will manage and coordinate the residential functions associated with the residential experience for students and staff. Utilizing a team approach and exercising sound judgment to facilitate a positive living environment within residential communities.
Manage administrative tasks associated with the residential area, including purchasing, conduct review, and scheduling, as well as implementation of initiatives that promote a sense of community in the residential area. Assist with the development and training of career and student staff. Provide crisis response through participation in on-call duty rotation.
Acknowledge the diversity of the student body, to work proactively toward creating a community atmosphere in which people respect each other's rights, properties, and sensitivities. Identify and articulate student needs and issues within a developmental framework and collaborate with others in the department to provide an effective departmental/institutional response to those needs and issues.
Responsibilities:- Monitors employee performance and provides direction and assistance.
- Provides guidance and direction on most complex operational issues and problems.
- Recommends changes to program policies, processes, and procedures.
- Serves as a student conduct hearing officer for complex, egregious, and repeated violations.
- Provides training to subordinates.
- Counsels and evaluates employee performance.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 4 - 7 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
- Skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication; multitasking and intercultural competence.
- Master's degree.
- Previous supervisory/managerial experience.
- Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
- Ability to develop original ideas and problem solve.
